The party of La Tomatina de Buñol is celebrated on the last Wednesday of the month of August within the week of festivities of the municipality of Buñol. This year will take place on August 29, 2018. For those who do not know it yet, the participants throw tomatoes at each other.

It was in the year 1980 when the city council decided to organize the party.
Its popularity has not stopped growing to become one of the Spanish festivals with the greatest international impact. Tourists of all nationalities meet to launch the 150 tons of tomatoes that are distributed from six trucks among the attendees.
Since 2013, to avoid crowds, the municipality of Buñol decided to limit the capacity of the party to 22,000 people to ensure greater comfort and security for attendees.
Since then it is necessary to buy tickets to participate. Tickets must be purchased through an official distributor.
How is La Tomatina de Buñol celebrated?
The battle begins at eleven in the morning and lasts exactly one hour. The entire square is dyed red. Participants are recommended to wear goggles and gloves. In order for the tomatoes do not hurt anybody, you have to crush them first before they are launched.
The tomatoes are cultivated expressly for this celebration and the acidity of the tomato disinfects the streets of the town that are of cobblestone.
